A Mother's Difficulties
A Mother's Love - An Illustration. Source: Here |
"And We have enjoined upon man, to his parents, good treatment. His mother carried him with hardship and gave birth to him with hardship, and his gestation and weaning [period] is thirty months. [He grows] until, when he reaches maturity and reaches [the age of] forty years, he says, "My Lord, enable me to be grateful for Your favor which You have bestowed upon me and upon my parents and to work righteousness of which You will approve and make righteous for me my offspring. Indeed, I have repented to You, and indeed, I am of the Muslims." (Surat Luqman, 46:15)
Today I would like to share with all of you a poem I found on the internet. I apologize in advance because I really don't know the author of this arabic poem but nonetheless, it is such a moving poem and I feel that it will a waste if I didn't share it with the world. If anyone knows the original author, please do let me know.
In the Malay culture, the phrase "Syurga itu di bawah telapak kaki ibu," (Paradise lies under the feet of your mother) is one of the most famous phrase regarding mothers and has been around for a very long time. It denotes the importance of respecting and loving our mothers.
If you think about it logically, this phrase makes perfect sense.
Can you imagine carrying a heavy sack of flour 24/7 for 9 months?
How about carrying a living creature inside of your belly, like some parasite, kicking around, eager to leave the womb?
No one in their right mind would want to carry that! But our mothers, because of their immense love and passion, waited patiently for us to be mature enough before leaving their bodies while nourishing us at the same time.
During those difficult months, our mothers prayed night and day, in the hope that this unborn child will be the coolness of her eyes, her comfort in the midst of a raging storm of life and her saviour when she becomes older and frailer.
Pray for them!
My mother passed away a long time ago. Sometimes, I wish that I could spend more time with her but alas, time can only move forward! Thus, I can only do the second best thing: I convey to all of you my greatest hope today... Appreciate your mother while she is still alive. Make du'a for them!
To those who has lost their mothers, you can also always make du'a for them. Pray for them abundantly.
'And lower to them the wing of humility out of mercy and say, "My Lord, have mercy upon them as they brought me up [when I was] small." '
"Our Lord, forgive me and my parents and the believers the Day the account is established."
My Mother - A Beautiful Poem
You owe your mother in abundance, if only you knew,
[however] you serving her abundantly is not all that difficult.
How many nights did she spend struggling carrying your weight [in her womb].
How many nights did she spend struggling carrying your weight [in her womb].
She had pain, difficulty, and sighs.
If only you knew the difficulty that was upon her while delivering you,
[you would have seen] her heart pumping with agony.
She continuously washed away impurities from you with her [bare] right hand.
Her lap was always a bed for you.
She sacrificed herself for your pain.
She sacrificed herself for your pain.
Your nourishment gushed forth from her chest.
How many times did she remain hungry giving you her nourishment,
How many times did she remain hungry giving you her nourishment,
with love and gentleness while you were an infant.
Woe be to that [so called] intelligent individual [who forsakes his mother] chasing temptations.
Woe be to that [so called] intelligent individual [who forsakes his mother] chasing temptations.
Woe be to that person who is [physically] sighted but has [spiritual] blindness of the heart.
Brace yourself [and] seek her all comprehensive supplications for indeed you are in need of her prayers.
Brace yourself [and] seek her all comprehensive supplications for indeed you are in need of her prayers.
